Last Friday night, I ventured out with my friends to meet my friend DT at a bar in Midtown. As I walked in the door, I ran right into MJ, a guy I work with who is an engineer. He informed me that my "boyfriend", Engineering Guy, was with him in the back room.
I had met Engineering Guy a couple months back at a work happy hour and we seemed to hit it off. The only problem was that since my company is enormous, I hadn't seen him since. I remember him being super cute, went to the same college as me and that our conversation flowed. The only concern I had with him is that he dipped chewing tobacco in my face. Not a turn on to me. But at this point, I turn a blind eye to that sort of thing. I could always help him quit later. I digress.
Later on in the night, I was talking to MJ again and Engineering Guy came over. We did the whole introduction thing and talked as a group for a while before MJ left us alone. Engineering Guy was being super flirty. Touching the side of my hip, hopefully not feeling the
muffin top. We talked about work and how he would be coming over to my project to get help on IT stuff. I told him my cube was right around the corner and he said he would totally stop by. We parted ways but not before we went through a group of guys to meet our respective group of friends and he said, "Pretty Girl coming through". Very flattering indeed. But when we made it to the door to go back into the bar he didn't look back to say goodbye. Just kept on walking. WTF?
When my friends and I were ready to leave the bar, AB told me not to say goodbye to MJ and Engineering Guy and to be the mystery girl. Plus I didn't want to be too needy.
Later during my Bacardi buzz, I kept thinking of all the witty and flirty things I could have said during our conversation that would have made it known I was interested. I love it when you think of things AFTER the fact. Awesome.
On Monday, I did my hair (which I never do for work) and wore a super cute outfit. I was ready for my visit from Engineering Guy. He never came over. Tuesday, I did the same thing. Nothing. By the time Wednesday came around I was convinced that he wasn't going to come, so I let my hair air dry and my outfit was okay. Low and behold, I hear a familiar voice and pop my head up from my cube to see Engineering Guy talking to the IT people. I ran to the restroom to check my vitals and luckily I was looking descent. Not the best but not terrible. I wanted to "bump" into him so I walked by where he was standing 5 or 6 times and nothing. Not noticed at all. I will give him the benefit of the doubt that he was engrossed in conversation and not facing my direction but still. He was over there for about an hour and I was sitting in my cube when I heard him say he would talk to the IT people later. No dice on him coming over. Maybe he was drunk when he said he would come by but whateves. That’s boys for you. So hard to read.
Now I don't know when I will see him again. This
dating thing should be effortless and I feel like I put way to much into it. If it's meant to be it will be. Or I will just plan another work happy hour and see if he shows!
